     I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN A PARABLE;
          I WILL UTTER DARK SAYINGS FROM OF OLD.

     THINGS THAT I HAVE HEARD AND KNOWN,
          THAT OUR ANCESTORS HAVE TOLD US.

     WE WILL NOT HIDE THEM FROM THEIR CHILDREN;
          WE WILL NOT TELL TO THE COMING CONGREGATION.

     THE GLORIOUS DEEDS OF THE LORD, AND HIS MIGHT,

Christian Education is a unique part of our church life. Where else do you see a single institution that offers educational programming for people of every age? Here, we take on the monumental task to teach those only a few years seperated from baptism as well as those who have walked many miles in the faith. In this vital ministry, we learn how to pratice the obedience to which we are called by God. We teach and learn together as brothers and sisters in Christ, each person a valuable contribution to the expansion of God's kingdom.

Our theme verse this year, Psalm 78: 2-4, highlights the ancient nature of our call. We are not the first to carry on the story of the faith; instead, we are kin to the Levite priests who were charged with the protection of the Ark of the Covenant. We accept the commission to bear precious cargo of limitless value through an ever-changing world. Christian education provides us the opportunity to grow and nuture faith, and to instill and sustain the faith of the coming generation.

I can assure you that every class is looking for new people every week and you will be welcomed in any space you feel so led to join. I look forward to all that is ahead in what promises to be an exciting year in Christian education.

Adult Bible Discussion

The Adult Bible Discussion Class has been studying a series entitled Journey Through the Bible. It began with Genesis and we are progressing through the Old Testament. We are now studying the book of Judges.

For the first five weeks of this year, the Adult Bible Discussion Class will be joining in with Steve Scott's class, "How Do You Spell Presbyterian?"

We alternate our Bible study series every couple of months with contemporary studies, such as studies by Ellsworth Kalas. Some of these studies have been Women of the Bible, Parables From the Back Side, and different ways of looking at familiar Biblical stories. We make a effort to apply the Biblical stories to our everyday lives and to understand how the scriptures speak to us today.

Christians in Contemporary Culture

We are a small group of varying ages who read, study, share together and enjoy each other!

This fall we will be reading The Christ-Haunted Landscape: Faith and Doubt in Southern Fiction.

Our dicussions are lively; our class is committed and we welcome new members. Please join us upstairs in the Adult Library in the main building.

Southern literature may not be the most predictable place to listen for God, but it may be among the most rewarding. Join us!

Living in Faith

The Living in Faith class offers Bible study and fellowship for adults with special needs. Various media and resources such as music, cooking, video and arts and crafts are used to teach the class. The group participates in many social events together including dances, picnic and birthday parties. The attend camp once a year.

Teachers for the class are Roy and Joy Morrison and Rudy and Sarah Davis.

The class members love to give hugs and in the words of class member Libby Weaver, "Everyone is welcome to join our class or just visit us!"

Discovery Class

Fran Campbell and Beth Bush, Bible teachers, will teach alternating classes in 4-week blocks from the series Foundations - A Purpose Driven Discipleship Resource. There are Participant's Guides for class members as well as Teacher's Guides for the two teachers.

John Koppelmeyer will teach from "The Life We Claim - The Apostles Creed" written by Dr. James C. Howell, Senior Minister of Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte.

Steve Meyer, Doctor of History, will return in the fall to conclude the studies we have had on Dante with Dante's Paradise.

Roany Thomas will teach from a variety of subjects he has to include Road to Perdition, Get a Grip, Journey of the Mind, Humor and Some Faces of Love.

Women's Class

We begin to assemble fifteen to twenty minutes earlier for coffee and fellowship. The first Sunday of each month we serve country ham biscuits. Come join us!
