- to work for justic and peace.
- and to build an inclusive, caring community of women
that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA)
and witness to the promise of God's kingdom.

Presbyterian Women (PW) is organized church-wide in almost 80% of Presbyterian congregations, and is in all presbyteries and synods. There has been a women's organization in First Presbyterian Church since 1760.
Although under the jurisdiction of the Session, PW is, for the most part, an autonomous organization, self-determining in its leadership, budget, and program. All women are members of Presbyterian Women.

PW Activity
Presbyterian Women support the mission of the General Assembly and the work of PW on the presbytery, synod and church-wide levels. We also contribute to agencies providing local social services.
Total national PW participation results in additional funding of $6 million church-wide. This money is used to support projects targeting violence against women, elder care, care for children, and criminal justice, among many.
Besides their efforts on fund-raising activities, PW members are challenged to make an annual contribution to fund the mission activities in the budget.
In addition to Presbytery Missions, our giving includes: My Sister's House, Kings Grant, Yokefellow and Elder Center. We award an Honorary Life Membership, participate in the Fellowship of the Least Coin and share an ecumenical bond with Church Women United.
Local missions receiving PW support include Barium Springs Home for Children and shut-ins of FPC.
Fellowship among women is important for spiritual growth. Circle membership provides friendship and a unique emotional connection that is nmot found with spouses and children, or friends who do not share our faith.

Circles
The Circle is the basic unit of PW as an organization. First Presbyterian Church has three circles meeting at various times. All women in the church are invited to join a Circle.
Scheduled at different times, Circles offer several choices:
|
|
Circle 1 meets at 10:00AM on the second Tuesday of the month
Circle 2 meets at 1:30PM on the second Monday of the month
Circle 3 meets at 6:30PM on the first Tuesday of the month
|
|
These are friendly, social groups who gather for fellowship and Bible study. Most of the service activity for the church is through the work of the Circles. Among these acitivities are those that women do best: nuturing, caring, cooking, etc., according to the talents of each Circle.

Bible Study
The Bible study each year is from Horizons, the Presbyterian Women's magazine. Our theme or book of the Bible is studied for the year. Bible Leaders are volunteers from PW membership
